Interestingly the NFTs collected in the game can also be used as a profile picture on social media accounts. The blockchain technology that Square Enix will be adopting is reported to be Ethereum (tentative), which is the second most popular blockchain, just behind Bitcoin. The NFT game Symbiogenesis and a supporting web service are slated for a Spring 2023 release.

However, Square Enix has no plans as of yet to bring NFTs or blockchain to their major and popular franchises like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.
