Resident Evil 1 Getting a Fan Remake in Unreal Engine 5
A team of fans has dedicated itself to recreating the original Resident Evil 1 as a remake for the PC with Unreal Engine 5. Despite the game facing a rocky midway point with the action entries into the series with the addition of Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6, the game regained its former glory. The game started to steer away from its original horror formula and adopted action-packed oriented gameplay for the series, which was pretty awkward looking back. Getting to control super-powered protagonists was fun and all, but it took the charm away. Despite these concerns and grievances, Resident Evil 6 went on to become the best-selling game of the franchise due to its enjoyable and solid gameplay. But some disgruntled fans argued that the Resident Evil series was stepping away from its roots. But Resident Evil returned to its survival horror roots with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Resident Evil is still one of the most successful horror franchises in the video game industry. It featured the most iconic save functions in the game and went on to work upon its classic formula to present us with some well-made remakes, such as the Resident Evil 2 Remake. The first few installments of the game were brought back from the ashes with modern developmental methods, and it looks like another is on the way in the form of a fan-made project, Resident Evil 1 Remake on the Unreal Engine 5. To make things clear to fans, this is an unofficial remake of the first iteration of the franchise and is being worked on by an independent team of fan developers. We got to witness a brief trailer of the fan remake project in Unreal Engine 5. Staying true to the roots of Resident Evil 1, fans will get to re-experience the fixed camera angles, and to make things interesting, the tank controls will be returning that were inspired by the Alone in the Dark series. Due to the modern Unreal Engine 5, the game looks pretty gorgeous so far. At this moment in time, we haven’t gotten a release date for Resident Evil 1 Fan Remake in Unreal Engine 5. Fans are always pouring their passion into fan projects to show their admiration and love for their beloved games and franchises. Recently, a Resident Evil 9 concept video was uploaded by a YouTuber named INEGAVEL GAMER that showcased major enemies from the game making a return, as well as a plethora of remakes created by the fanbase. It’s clear that the Resident Evil franchise has left a lasting impression on the gaming industry as a whole, as it inspired a generation of developers and game directors who adopted elements from the franchise. The over-the-shoulder camera perspective seen in many modern titles was originally taken from Resident Evil 4. Therefore, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that many game developers and directors owe a debt to the Resident Evil Franchise. CAPCOM is currently working on a Resident Evil 4 Remake which we all are excited about. We got a developer gameplay overview for the trailer back on June 14, 2022, but there’s no official release window for now. There’s also a Resident Evil 9 officially in development. With that said, the survival horror franchise is by no means coming to an end any time soon. The game was given a fresh start back in 2017 with the release of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Since then, CAPCOM has learned from its mistakes involving the use of an over-the-top action-adventure formula and has moved back to its roots being the gritty and atmospheric survival horror formula that Resident Evil was originally famous for.
Ever since, there’s been renewed interest in the Resident Evil Franchise as a whole. This is due to the overwhelmingly positive reception of Resident Evil 8: Village and how the game nailed the gameplay, core mechanics, gritty atmosphere, and horror experience and built upon the lore spectacularly. While official games have recently been a hit with fans, some fans are keen to get in on the act and make their very own remakes and remasters for the franchise.
